Spare Key
« on: July 18, 2010, 02:46:31 PM »
I went to my local Ace Hardware to try and get a spare key made for my Fiddle 125. No luck.
Has anyone here successfully obtained a spare key for their SYM?
If so, how did you do it?
Thanks for your help...

You have to go to a locksmith. They will charge you more, but they have the blanks. This also goes true for cheap "mail-a-scooters." Local places don't have the blanks as a general rule.

I found this guy on ebay.

After a few emails and picture of my key, he is mailing me a blank key.
I'll let everyone know the outcome.

The guy (Bill) sent me a blank Kymco key. I took it to my local Ace Hardware and they reluctantly cut it for me. It works just fine in my 2009 Fiddle 125! So, if anyone is interested, $8.50 to get the blank sent and Ace cut it for free.
It makes me a lot happier to know I have a spare.

You can go to this site to see a picture of the Kymco key if you want to compare:

Just click on Kymco in the left navigation once you are there.

For a spare key, just go to a locksmith. They have so many more blanks than the local hardware store.
I just got a spare made for UNDER 4 bucks. Here is the blank they used (works perfect) a suzuki key.

This is interesting as the key for my VS125 has a magentic section on the back to open the protective cover over the ignition switch. If you don't have the correct one, you can close the cover but not open it. Is the VS the only one with this system?

I also have two keys made by locksmith firm named dollar king near me, but those keys don't have a magnetic section on the back at all.
