AmeriVespa 2012
« on: June 25, 2012, 01:19:07 PM »
Just returned from AmeriVespa in Lake Geneva, WI.
We drove up from Pensacola Florida.
We enjoyed the event and we really enjoyed the friendly people who attended.

There were over 600 scooters there and (please, please correct me if I'm wrong), I did not see ONE SYM there.
I was really surprised/disappointed.
A few Yamahas, some Hondas, very few Kymcos.
Mostly Vespas (naturally) and Genuines (It's kind of their territory being from Chicago).
A small sprinkling of China scooters -thought there would be more but I guess because it was called 'AmeriVESPA'
they didn't think they should attend (?).

Maybe they should consider a name change to encourage the participation of all brands.
Certainly no brand of scooter is ever barred, but it would've been more fun with more variety.

Did anyone else attend?

They aren't going to turn party crashers away, but AmeriVespa is a Vespa event for Vespa owners.  If they change the name to encourage all brands, then it would no longer be the Vespa event.

Consider organizing a National Scoot Rally or annual SYM Scene, or whatever.  If you build it, they will come.   ;)
Just say NO to ugly and impractical motorcycles.

Yeah, I know what you mean, pacnwfoto.
AV is 20 years old this year. The scooter scene has changed a lot since then, and in some ways, not at all.

It was amazing to watch more than 600 scooters come around the corner. It went on for several minutes.

I also attended AmeriVespa. There were at least 2 CityCom 300s: one from Wisconsin and mine from Chicago. But that's not many out of over 600 scoots! I was there with a bunch of friends and we all had a great time. The hosts, Scoot Jockeys of Lake Geneva, did a fantastic job. All their rallies are well-organized, start on time, and have lots of good times.

Just got an e-mail from my Los Angeles Scooter Group about Amerivespa 2013.  I plan on being there with my 300i.  It'll be in my neck of the woods in San Diego.
