Joyride coolant change
« on: September 18, 2018, 09:03:23 AM »
I want to replace the coolant but the owners manual is not brilliant.
I can see the drain bolt on the water pump and will undo pressure cap on radiator.
I will use radiator flush before refilling but do I do the refills through the radiator cap or through the top up pipe on the handlebars

I have a Chinese 250cc scoot and I always use the radiator filler cap. However, after it is full, I let the coolant temperature drop till it is cold or over-night.

Then I start the scooter and let it run until thermostat opens and you should see coolant start to circulate. Re-fill at the radiator cap, until full, as the coolant will generally go down. Immediately put on radiator cap securely after re-filling.

Then turn off motor and let coolant return to ambient temperature or over night. Repeat the process until coolant level does not drop, and there is no need to fill at the radiator cap.

I ensure that the top-up pipe always remains with a coolant level that is within the marked levels.
