Normal oil consumption in Joyride 200i evo
« on: March 15, 2018, 12:45:07 PM »
Hi guys, I'm having a "big" question here:

How much oil the engine normally consumes between services? What is the tolerance, or the normal consumption of this engine?

That's because i noticed that the engine is consuming around 150cc of oil every 3000-3500km and I'm using Motul 5100 10w40 or Elf Moto 4 Road 10w40... both are semi-synthetic. none of my previous bikes (other brands, other styles) has consumed that much oil between services, but i think this difference is only because this engine revs too much. But i need to read your opinions! Maybe it's normal, due to other reasons o maybe not!  :-\

The bike has already 6500km

Thanks in advance!  ;D

Reply:   Dear Carlos,

Thank you for choosing SYM product.

According to your description, we think your Joyride 200i evo still

runs perfectly.

In our experience, oil consumption could reach 50~100cc every

1000km (it depends on the driving environment and habit).

If you have any further question or need any technical support,

please contact the authorized dealer for help.

Wish you have a nice day and enjoy riding with SYM scooter.

Best regards.

Cool 'nuff.
That much oil in that many km?
I've done worse when doing a lot of  high speed running.

UPDATE!

the scooter, after the 10000km (i have already 14700) started to lower the consumption. this is strange, maybe because we're in winter, or the engine passed a extremely large break-in period.

My conclusion:  This scooter always consumes oil, sometimes more, sometimes less. And it's extremely important to check the oil level every 1000km. When I change the oil, there's always a little left in the bottle and I keep all those remains in the same bottle under the seat, so hopefully I'll have a free oil change soon, including fillings every 1000 or 1500km that i mentioned above.

The engine of my 2014 SYM RV200 EVO, 7000 miles on it, does not consume any oil. I ride conservatively, with no jack-rabbit starts, no stopping on a dime, and no high-speed riding.

Up until now, I have used an assortment of oil, using up what I have had lying around.
Now that it's used up, I am deciding on an oil to use.
I have read as much as I can on the forum to choose an oil, and below are comments that forum members have left (thank you, all):
-10w30 API SH
-Rotella Synthetic T6 5W-40 for 85 +.
-10w30 API SH or better, for ambient temperature 84 and lower.
-We use 10W40 synthetic oil such as Mobil 1, for temperature 85 and higher.
-go fully synthetic if you can afford it. it will cope with extreme weather conditions better.
-The problem is that, according to Jeff and the charts I have seen, 30 weight starts to break down as the temperature goes over 85 degrees or so. We often have way over 90 here in NY, so I go with 40 weight in the summer.
-Make sure to choose a seasonable grade of oil. In colder weather, use 5W30 and in warmer weather use 10W40. Also, make sure its API Rating is SF or better. The API Rating is inside the little circle on the back of the container.
There is salt on the roads here in upstate New York, and I have discontinued riding until Spring rains wash the salt off the roads. An oil change is due on my scoot, and I am leaning towards using "Rotella Synthetic T6 5W-40 for 85 +" on a regular basis.

Mostly what I run on my bikes since if ya wait a bit there's almost always a great sale/rebate offer in the fall & sometimes the spring.
I got it cheaper then dino; albeit the Rotella "Synthetic" is really a Group 3, so not a true synthetic IMHO, but it does work fine & it lots cheaper than Royal purple.
