Tires.
« on: August 07, 2016, 02:09:10 PM »
Hi,
I need to replace the tires. They are pretty much worn out after 7k miles. I found the following tires available (andI liked the protector pattern):
Michelin Gazelle (don't like that protector pattern, but the price is cheap)
Avon Am26 front and rear (90/90-18 and 100/80-17)
Avon AV83 front and rear
Continental ContoGo front
Michelin Pilot Street rear
Duro HF918 front.
Any thoughts or experience with those?

My 2012 has new Michelin Gazelles tires. I would not buy them myself; tread pattern not best for street AND the rear appears to be less-than-grippy*. The 2015 has Cheng Shin; they seem to OK so far.

I don't believe that Cheng Shin (CST Tire) sells our size in North America. I like the Cheng Shin.

And Yuasa doesn't carry our battery either

Yugi, could you post the prices for these tires for us.
Links to them on-line would be cool as well.

Thanks for the research. Those tires are nice and sporty not old school like Gazelles. Will you try to put on a larger tire? If so, let us know what you squeeze on. Cheers.

Ha! Recognized the tire as soon as soon as I saw the photo of the tread pattern! I always used nothing but the same tread pattern Duro tires (front and rear) on a SYMBA. They're good tires and that tread pattern doesn't hunt out and follow road imperfections like a ribbed tire does.  Sounds like a good idea to me.  Duro sells a lot of tires in Taiwan so they must be doing something right.

I bought Full Bore tour king for rear and thinking about buying either Avon AV83 or Duro HF918 for the front.
I went with Avon Roadrider AM26 90/90-18 tire for the front, was a little wider, so I did some dremeling of the fender, right side only for some reason.
Now my rear tire is almost done, so I was researching what can I get for that. There are some tires from the list above not available anymore, but there are some new ones in 100/80-17 sizes, for example:
1. Avon Roadrider MKII (replacement for AM26): $99
2. Continental Conti Twist SM: about  $108
3. Bridgestone Battlax BT46: about $98
I'm leaning towards Avon, since my front is Avon as well, and it's still in a good shape.
Also noticed that Full Bore Tour King fitted fine, and there still some clearance left on the right and left, not sure what's the dimensions of Full Bore are, but Avon lists 100/80-17 as 101mm wide, and 110/70-17 as 108mm wide. Diameter is about the same (595 vs 593mm). It may fit as well. Does anybody has experience with that size for the rear?
