Although it's been some years since I installed it, I want to tell you the results of placing the magnetic oil drain plug on the left side of the crankcase.
When I removed the drain plug to empty the crankcase, I found what I estimate to be 1/64" shards of metal adhering to the magnet. This is not ideal that there are metal shards in the oil, but it is good that the magnet is grabbing some of them.
I thus concluded that the magnetic oil drain plug is useful; in case some of you were wondering about it's efficacy.
