Hello all, I got a bonus package on Tuesday.
1) New OEM Bando belt. No, not from Carter, but on eBay for cheaper than Carter anyway at under 75 shipped.
2) New Dr. Pulley sliders 20x15 16 grams--(stock weight) Good luck finding rollers in this size. These were also cheaper at 30.40 shipped
3) New brake pads for the front-- sintered (I have to try them out) for 12.00 shipped

Here are the videos on how to do it. I had to split them apart due to You Tube time constraints. It's pretty basic. I have yet to test them out and will do so soon, but let me first off say----BIGGG difference in the parking lot.

Video one-- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLmTPJc7k8I
Video two--http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B040g8lAGcw

Enjoy---Jeff

Here's where I got the sliders Leo--- http://stores.ebay.com/Autotech355-Performance-Parts_Dr-Pulley-Product_W0QQ_fsubZ945455016QQ_sidZ168090226?_nkw=20x15&submit=Search

He starts them at 32.00 shipped with a buy it now, but if you wait until the auction is nearing the end, then you'll get 5% off for 30.40 shipped.

I got a chance to ride a little today and seriously the take off power is vastly improved. I still have to do the marker test and see the final results but I'm impressed. I've yet to test top end but I had no problems getting to 75 GPS until traffic hit.

I'd also like to hear about your before and after rpm readings, at highway speeds.

Because the flattened shape of Dr P sliders allows them to hug the outside edge of the variator a little closer than circular "rollers", they often provide a small but useful reduction in cruising rpm.

Thanks Jeff, for yet another informative, helpful video.

I see that the sliders are 16g, is that also the weight of the stock rollers?

I still have to do the marker test, but my cruising RPMs are definitely lower and it takes far less throttle off the line. I'll be tracking my gas mileage too as I expect it to increase also.

They are 16 gram rollers stock so I replaced them with 16 gram sliders. What's a bit weird is that overseas the HD's have 13 gram rollers. I've seen available 13, 14, 15, 16 readily and also saw a listing for 19 and 21 Grams but they were out of stock

Do you have to have an impact gun/wrench to do this work?  Can you perform the work with regular wrenches?

It's easier with an impact gun, but I did it with a breaker bar on my Yamaha.

A helper is really nice if you're doing it without an iimpact gun- you're so busy reefing on the tool, that an extra pair of hands is handy for steadying the rotor holding tool, keeping the bike from falling, etc.

FYI, 20x15 16gr Dr Pulley sliders are back in stock at Autotech355, for $32 plus shipping.

I tried to buy some a few weeks ago, but pretty much everybody seemed to be out of stock. The only place I could find them wanted $50 a set...

Here's the url for their store (2 sets left, as of this writing):

Hey Jeff,

What's the word on the 16g Dr Pulley sliders? Do you think that 16g is optimal or would you consider another weight?

Thanks

On my RV I used 20 gram sliders compared to the 22 gram rollers stock.
= Faster off the line, a tad less on top end speed.
I believe I need a new variator really soon (on order)!

I'm happy with the 16 G sliders. Don't forget that sliders perform as 1 gram lighter when compared to rollers so effectively, I have 15 G rollers in now.

I didn't lose any top end and can still do a GPS 80 at about 9000 RPM's. I gained very little below 20mph. What I did gain is a quick and instant throttle snap response and without a doubt better "gearing" altogether.  Hill climbing "gearing" is hugely increased.

The sliders have a better response time and it shows in performance at all ranges of speed. 20-60 is my best power range, but please take into account that The Drake is not a stock HD200 so your results may differ.

I am thinking of mixing a few lighter weights in to test a few things too.

BTW a few slider/roller weight tips--
The lighter, the quicker
The heavier, the faster
BUT
too light of weights may never get you to your top speed.
too heavy of weights won't make you go faster unless you have to power to back it up and if you don't, you'll wear out your belt faster.
there is a balance that is hard but not impossible to reach.

Driving habits, speeds, rider weight, ranges and more have to do with CVT tuning so it gets down to an individual rider tune.

Hope this helps--Jeff
