We are both getting excited less than 96 hours till go time. Yesterday replaced the air filters on both scooters, the wifes filter was pretty nasty, was the original one with 6500+ miles. Mine was not to bad with 13000 miles on it approx. Tires and belts were replaced on both in May, new irridium plugs installed 2 weeks ago. I took saturday off (normally work wed-sat, yeah split shifts really stink), for the final prep work, engine and gear oils primarily. Will clean and shine them up, along with the gathering of the selected tools, and emergency parts (will bring a new and used belt). Will throw in some oil, and the cut in 1/2 milk jug that worked out good from last year for the on the road oil change. Made reservations for the first 2 stops after that we will play it by ear. Am trying something new prior to leaving, secured the saddlebags to the passenger hand grips, versus having the normal valcro straps going across the seat. This will allow me to access the under the seat area without having to remove the bags. Put some black foam tape to the passenger handgrips and used safety wire to secure the bags, Then put black tape over the safety wire and sponge tape as a decorative cover, looks pretty good. The valcro is still there if have any issues, so can go back to original setup if needed. After last year we are both really looking forward to getting away and hitting the road for another adventure. Early weather looks like we will enjoy sunny weather for the first few days, things looking good so far. Gonna be a long 4 days...

Congrats, looks like you had a terrific route to follow, on the perfect "mini wing" for sightseeing. Feeling some pretty serious envy, here...
That's some pretty serious luggage for a 100cc bike. What were your top speed and average cruising speeds, loaded?

Yeah, the luggage space is pretty overboard ... I have some 140 liters of it, in total. Not all fully laden, though. Total cargo weight was about 20kg. I held it WOT at a long straight; it did about 80km/h, max and wouldn't go any faster ... though I have tried the same minus the luggage and it'll do 90km/h. My average cruising speed was 70km/h. All speeds mentioned are GPS-corrected. I did my usual 500km weekend jaunt to and fro the capital city a couple of weeks after this trip @ average cruising speed of 65km/h ... and got a fantastic 72km/L fuel consumption figure That's a whopping 169 miles per US gallon, folks

That trip on the Honda looks like it was a great time. Speed isn't always the best thing when touring, especially if you got the time to take it easy. 70km/h if my math is correct would be about 42mph approx, which isn't to bad. Not sure what the traffic is like in Malaysia, but on some of the two lane highways in Montana the speed limit is 70mph and the traffic does over that by some. I would be alittle nervious if you were riding in conditions like that, close to 115km/h converted. And that gas mileage wow that is really amazing. It is nice to be able to smell the roses and take in the sights when travelling.

That trip on the Honda looks like it was a great time. It was - simply awesome ... albeit a rather sore tailbone for almost a week after My bad; I should have gotten myself a seat pad for what is expected to happen. Not sure what the traffic is like in Malaysia, but on some of the two lane highways in Montana the speed limit is 70mph and the traffic does over that by some. Main and secondary backroads here are single-lane; speed limit is 90km/h (56mph) ... 60km/h urban (37mph). Highways and expressways are 110km/h max (68mph). My route was plotted over main roads; taking secondary ones whenever possible ... Not because of traffic conditions - which is pretty hectic in and around the smaller towns and villages, and closer to Singapore where Singaporeans love to let 'er rip over this side of the Singapore Straits ... but simply because the scenic routes are on them (and pretty much everywhere else on Earth.) I would be a little nervous if you were riding in conditions like that, close to 115km/h converted. I do 500km (310mi) of that every other weekend on the North-South Expressway ... where express coaches with 15,000cc bi-turbo engines run upwards of 150km/h (93mph) with impunity ... so let's not even mention the cars ... We don't have a minimum speed limit on our highways and expressways; so there is no issue of being freeway-legal. Bicycles are prohibited, though ... With a LOT of mirror-watching and a big dose of alertness ... one just gets used to it

Nice, UB! Sorry, we could not meet you this time as we were running around for an Aussie honeymoon trip, which we had just completed last week. Totally awesome what you have done on the EX5 and it was so nice to see your pimped out ride here on Penang Island a couple of months back! Now that we are back, we'll be contacting you shortly for an Ipoh visit! CVT Rider

Hey, CVT Rider! Congratulations (finally!) on your marriage again; absolutely understand time-out for the honeymoon. Did you ride in Australia? LOL ... pulling your leg, my friend. Am sure you newlyweds have better things to do Yeah; the ride around the entire country was a real blast. Strange thing is ... I was still itching to ride on the very next day after I arrived home in Ipoh ... and still am revved-up now I am a bikerholic ... I'm hoping to make a 2-day/2-night ride to Kuala Perlis for some grilled seafood end of this month Will be taking the long way round (well, not exactly that much longer, but more scenic for sure): Ipoh - Kuala Kangsar - Gerik - Gurun - Kuala Kedah - Kuala Perlis. Yeah; I'll be completely bypassing the Penang State, except on the way back. The Gerik - Gurun section is awesome ... you can't leave it out. In fact, I've got a friend who's also in Penang, joining me from Ipoh. You and the missus game?
