Symba 110 Stalling in First Gear
« on: August 09, 2012, 12:11:28 PM »
Hi fellow Symba owners - I am having trouble with mine stalling when I put it in first gear - it will idle in neutral when I start it cold - I've been riding it but have to rev it in first to keep it running - when I get back from the ride, as soon as I come to a stop it dies and won't continue to idle when I put it in neutral.

I just got it this spring and only have 60 miles on it - was out of town for a couple weeks and came back to it not starting at all  ??? - so took out the old gas, put some new in along with some Sea Foam two days ago - been taking it on short rides but always the same problem.

Any suggestions? still under warranty so could take it back to the shop but wouldn't mind fixing it myself.

thanks for any input...

Sounds like it just needs a small adjustment on the idle speed screw. When you start it cold, the choke is on so it gets more fuel/air and will idle ok. When warm the choke is off so it's simply not getting enough fuel/air to keep running.
I can't advise on the layout of your carb/FI (don't know which it has) but in either case it sounds like it just needs a small tweak a little higher to keep it running at idle.
If you attempt to fix this yourself, remember that you don't want the idle too high or the centrifical clutch will start to engage and the scoot may creep forward. You have to find that balance where it all works correctly.

I just got a 09 fiddle 125 this spring with only 25 miles it. Did what you did buy putting fresh gas in and adding a few cape fulls of
seafoam at fill-ups to clean-up any varnish gunk. Scooter would start, idle for about45 to 60 seconds than die. Would go about 4 blocks and die at first
stop sign. Come to the intersection light and die again. I did set the idle up a little when scooter warm. Try just an eighth of a turn.
But the biggest thing to do is just get thru the BREAK IN period. Today I have about 400 miles and it just purrs now and you will notice
more power as you break it in and the MPG will increase. Now I have to turn down the idle...Happy riding

The most common problem for these bikes that have been sittin around for a bit is a clogged pilot jet in the carb...Seafoam will help keep it clean, but I usually remove the carb bowl, remove the smaller pilot jet and clean it out with a fine but strong piece of wire (I use an old electric Guitar string), spray some carb cleaner through it and voila!
