Digital speedometer randomnly stopped working
« on: February 04, 2018, 07:16:16 PM »
Everything else works fine but the speed just shows 0. Any ideas on what to check? It is a 2014 Lance Cabo with ~4000 miles.

One thing we know (I think) is it uses the same mechanical speedometer drive as the cable driven speedo on the Lance PCH https://www.scooterdynasty.com/speedometerdrivefor50cc-200cclancepchcabo.aspx

So, why not remove the screw from the cable at the hub (who knows, maybe something broken will fall on the ground out of the sensor cable when you do😜)

Put the bike on the centerstand and have an assistant sit on the passenger seat or push the back of the bike down so you can spin the front wheel with your hand, to make sure the mechanical speedo drive still rotates.

Follow this cable up to where it connects to the instrument panel...still connected?

Are you able to test the wires for continuity with an ohmmeter from end to end of the speedo sensor cable?

Call your local Lance dealer and ask for the service department. Tell them what scooter you have, the issue with the speedo not working and what you've checked...you might get a free answer to the problem

Everything? It might be worth double checking that your odometer is still adding mileage by riding the scooter around the block...

Speed and odometer likely get data off the same source...

Gotta figure your speedo is just a fancy bicycle computer with a magnet rotating (driven by the speedo drive)  and a sensor with wires sending a signal to a processor in the instrument panel...
