Coolant nipple corroded away
« on: October 09, 2017, 03:30:49 PM »
I've seen a couple of posts about the coolant nipple on the crankcase corroding away.  Anyone have a fix for the nipple on the other end, on the underside?  When I put the a new stator in over the weekend, I had a hell of a time getting the hose on what's left of the nipple, not much left for the hose clamp to tighten it on to.

Any suggestions?

Barring a pic it's tough to say.
Is is a spot where you could thread a fitting into what's left & the crankcase, or is the metal on the inside decayed as well?

I don't know how to post pictures, but I found a similar problem in this thread:

The one I have the problem with is in front of the exhaust, I can't find it in the manual so I have no idea how to take it apart.

The manual issue is pretty easily solved.
The corroded nipple, unless it's a screwed in fitting, notsomuch.

Should be a copy of it for download there.

Got it.
Is this similar to yours?

If so this looks like a press in fitting.  Getting it out and pressing a new one in..is another matter, but probably doable with much labor and swearing. Kinda depends on a few other factors, one of them being the aforementioned corrosion.
