Sym Wolf vs Kymco Spade
« on: October 08, 2017, 01:13:39 PM »
I rode to Barbers Vintage Festival this weekend and the first thing that caught my eye was the Kymco booth. They had the Spade and the K-Pipe there, both of which are bikes that interest me.

I've always though of the Spade as the most similar compediter to the Wolf. Same price point, similar engine, styling, etc. Only the Spade is much more modern, and right out of the gate it has aftermarket support.

I wanted to know what everyone else though of it compared to the Wolf. I love my wolf. I won't be selling it for a Spade. But I still like to know how my bike stacks up to the competition.

Specs:
Wolf 149cc
Spade 149cc

Wolf 14.79 hp at 8500
Spade 12.00 hp at 8500

Wolf 9ft lbs at 9000
Spade 8ft lbs at 7000

Wolf Carburetor
Spade EFI

Wolf 18/17 tires
Spade 12 inch tires

Wolf 240mm disk brake 130 mm drum
Spade 220 mm disk brake 140 mm drum

Wolf 266 lbs with 360 lbs capacity
Spade 266 lbs and ? Capacity

Wolf 2.45 gallons fuel tank
Spade 1.6 gallon fuel tank

Wolf 85 mpg
Spade 91 mpg

I think, so far, the wolf wins out. Plus, it has steel braided brake lines! It may not have the support the Spade has, but it's so similar to the thousands of Honda cbs out there, that I don't think the aftermarket is anything to worry about.

The Spade sounds like a Honda Grom clone.

The Spade sounds like a Honda Grom clone.

It's going after the same market, so yes, similar engine and wheel sizes. But I has much more of a standard, even vintage, look to it. It is much more similar to the Wolf.

Grom can be hopped up and Wolf, not much of any kind of option, nor is there any kind of engine replacement package! My buddy has a hopped up Grom!

That's what I'm seeing with the Spade. Lots of aftermarket support.

I wonder... Since the engines are pretty similar... How many of the spades parts could be easily modified to for the wolf??

Test Drove a Spade about a month back myself.
Really, really liked the bike.

I've had my Wolf since 2012, and damn, this is the first thing to make me seriously consider trading it in.  Looking at these specs, the small gas tank is a minus, and it appears the Spade has a little less power... but after riding it it doesn't feel like it.
I'll have to drive to the shop on the Wolf to do a true side-by-side since that time I drove there on the Symba.

I think this little bike will finally give the wolf a run for it's money.

Thanks for sharing! Did you feel like the Spade had more or equal power?
