Help With Clutch Cable Replacement
« on: June 01, 2017, 09:37:24 AM »
NEWBIE - I am trying to replace my clutch cable and I am unable to get enough slack in the cable to attach it to both the hand lever and the clutch.  It seems as tho the adjuster nuts are preventing me from the extra 1/2 inch I need. I have oiled and greased the cable as well. I also tried inserting the cable at the clutch first and connecting it to the hand lever 2nd - and same problem. Any ideas.

Are you sure you have the correct cable?

if you kept the old cable... compare it to the new cables

you wrote 'adjuster nuts' are preventing you from having enough slack.. nut or nuts? are both nuts on the same side of the bracket by the engine?

Did you take the lever off? Just remove the bolt and remove the lever. Then you should be able to put the clutch side on and then roll the lever back into place with both attached. does that make sense?

Yes, I finally figured out that the lever comes off. All good now. Thanks!

You should easily be able to install your cable without removing the lever.
Loosen the adjuster at the bottom all the way and you can get the barrel at the top of the cable into the lever.
Keep that barrel well greased and you wont have cable problems.
Get your motor runnin' .. get out on the highway.
