Can't open fuel tank cap
« on: May 25, 2017, 04:24:50 PM »
Hi, my Symba's fuel tank cap suddenly got stuck and can't open, even though it has switched to the open but something is prevented it from pulling out.

I wonder what would be the cause and if any of your ever encounter this problem? Suggestion needed to open it.

Many thanks.

Hi All,

Just wondering whether anyone else is finding it extremely difficult to unlock the gas cap on his/her SYMBA, on occasion?

I've had my SYMBA for nearly 2 years, and have twice had extreme difficulty unlocking the gas cap.  The first time, we tried some WD-40 on the key/lock...and that worked for a while.

Yesterday, I was washing the garage-dust off my SYMBA, and wiped under the seat - then tried the gas cap (I've been away for 2.5 weeks, and my parking garage is dusty), and could barely get it open...

Luckily, help arrived - and we tried the WD-40 again...which helped...but not enough.  We also tried a very thin layer of "chain lubricant" (from a spray can), applied (by finger) on the underside of the tank-lip.  That seemed to be a big improvement, but I guess I'll find-out at my next fill-up.

Sometimes mine still seems sticky - if I turn the key as far as it'll go - to the left, and then 'back it off a tiny bit' to the right - that sometimes helps...

Good luck!

So I did a google search, and lo and behold, apparently this is a common issue for motorcycle.
Found some videos on youtube about fuel tank cap got stuck and finally got it solved by using a hammer slightly knock on the cap (this is, after using the lubricant around it with no luck).

I don't know exactly what happened but it worked. One video mentions about releasing the air, so this may be the case.
