Ya I have been meticulous with my bike and I'm going to put new oil in again. I'm sure it's fine ;)

Alright update: I changed the oil just to be sure. Since then I have put on about another 200 miles all under 50ph. No issues. I get out last night to stretch running 60mph. After about 20min of riding I hear the noise again. Not near as loud as before but it's still there. I pulled the clutch in and out while coasting and it did not go away. I got it to go away when I shifted down to 3rd. Shift back up and a min later it's back. Shift back down and it goes away.... Thoughts?

Just called my local dealer. They will cover the parts if it is a manufacture defect but they will not cover the labor because I didn't buy it at their location. They said because they can't verify it was put together correctly? When they get the bike out of the box they don't put the motor together! What's there to verify?

Spoke with Mike at alliance he pretty much told me I'm screwed because I didn't tell it in to have it serviced So no records. I only have to 1700 miles. I can prove I bought the oil and my personal record. Closest dealer to me is over an HR away.
I spoke with the dealer I bought it from and he said it's rediculous the way I'm being treated. He did say a clutch is not covered by the warranty.... It's only got 1700 miles! Why would a clutch go bad with regular riding that early. He recommended I change to 10w40 synthetic oil and see if it helps.

It's not a cam chain, sounds more like clutch. What's odd is when it's going on it gets clunky shifting then when I get back into town and stop and go traffic, it goes away. I wish Sym would actually honor my "warranty". Unfortunately I'm starting to lose faith in the company that I have talked so highly of for years.

The "warranty" is as good as the dealer.
Get your motor runnin' .. get out on the highway.

Does the noise only occur in certain gears?

The clunky shifting you describe is only experienced in higher gears?

The noise and clunky shifting are experienced in the same gears?

The primary drive, clutch and input shaft of the transmission spin at the same RPM in relation to engine RPM, no matter which transmission gear you are in...

If you ride down the road at 6,000 RPM (or any other engine RPM) in any gear, these components wouldn't be doing anything differently, in any gear...

Would a clutch make a noise in 5th gear, that it wouldn't make in 4th or 3rd or...

I'm with Papa Bear... wondering if/how much the oil filter screen is full of shavings

Just dropped the oil, no shavings in the oil or the filter.  Pulled the clutch cover and everything in there is normal, doesn't apear to be a bad clutch.

Chasing a ghost...

Several decades ago, we had a pair of brand new Honda CT70's and on one of them, THIS happened... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7sf_w2MtsBo

Here's an interesting analysis of this type of failure... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-_hAsTxd9bA

Of course I'm just thinking out-loud...

...but if a wrist pin circlip fails, the wrist pin is free to move laterally and scrape/gouge the wall of the cylinder...

a hardened, ceramic cylinder, in this case... http://www.alliancepowersports.com/FAQRetrieve.aspx?ID=50807

Something inside your engine isn't right. Will be watching closely as you get to the conclusion and resolution.

You said you talked to Mike at Alliance, so I'm assuming you're in the US. The Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act of 1975 says that you cannot be denied warranty if you performed required service yourself (records, etc). Mike should know better.

If you can't locate the noise by ear, try a long screwdriver or other piece of metal. Carefully touch the screwdriver around the engine/trans with the handle at your ear. It's easy to pinpoint noises that way (though probably hard to do at 60mph!)

Knees l interesting, any thoughts on the Boise dealer saying they won't warranty it because I didn't buy it there? Thanks for the input Syd!  And yes kinda hard to do at 60mph.

The Boise dealer said that because he doesn't want to do the work, for whatever reason. And the long screwdriver doesn't work just at 60, it can show you noises you can't hear at idle.

Can you put the Wolf on something, say a milk crate, that gets the rear wheel off the ground, then put it in gear and listen?

I can do that but the problem if the noise only comes after 12 miles of running at 60mph. Probably not good to run an air cooled motor like that for long

We also used to use a broom handle to do that same kinda thing with the 396 SS Chevelle!  or earlier tappets etc and might also hear a "piston slap" LOL
Ride like a Klingon....
