New Sym Jet 50 Owner with "hopefully" not new problems....
« on: June 27, 2011, 12:43:30 PM »
Hi there

I have just purchased a w reg Sym jet 50 as a run about and work and back bike.

I have a couple of questions......

Currently bike refuses to switch off when ignition switched to off position ( even with key removed). I have to disconnect spark plug to stop it at moment! Any suggestions?

Also the age old question of how do you de-restrict it, as I am way past 16 years old and would at least like to enjoy it a little! I am mechanically competent, but have not played with bikes fir about 10 years!

Do I need to replace cdi unit, exhaust, and variable? Or is there a simple solution?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers

Iain

G'day Iain, I don't know about the derestrictions, but, it sounds like you have a wire off or a bad connection on either your ignition switch or cdi. I am not sure about sym, but kymco used a black/white wire on the cdi. When the switch was turned to off it would earth this wire stopping the engine. This may not be your problem, but a place to start looking.
oops, only just saw the date of the post.
